Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Design Curves, 1919 by Margaret Watkins was auctioned at Christies in New York in February 2007, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 7,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 22,800.00 (€ 17,233.56). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Margaret Watkins - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Domestic Symphony, c. 1920, which sold at auction in October 2018 for USD 50,000.00 (€ 44,122.84).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Design Curves, 1919 von Margaret Watkins im Februar 2007 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 7.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 22.800,00 (€ 17.233,56) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Margaret Watkins mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Domestic Symphony, c. 1920 beobachtet, die im Oktober 2018 für USD 50.000,00 (€ 44.122,84) versteigert wurde.
