Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Penitent Saint Peter by Ludovico Carracci was sold in the The Barbara Piasecka Johnson Collection: Renaissance & Baroque Masterworks. auction at Sothebys in London in July 2009. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 400,000.00 – 600,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 433,250.00 (€ 491,608.88) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ludovico Carracci achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Salmacis And Hermaphroditus in July 2006 with an auction result of GBP 7,400,000.00 (€ 10,832,732.69).
