Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Ill-Matched Lovers by Lucas Cranach II was sold in the Old Masters Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in July 2021. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 600,000.00 – 800,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 622,500.00 (€ 730,010.33) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Lucas Cranach II - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of a lady, three-quarter-length, in a green velvet and orange dress and a pearl-embroidered black hat, which sold at auction in July 2007 for GBP 1,812,000.00 (€ 2,691,238.28).
