Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Gentleman and Lady Riding to the Hunt (Hollstein 114) by Lucas Cranach I was auctioned at Sothebys in London in December 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 5,670.00 (€ 6,333.90). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Lucas Cranach I achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Bocca Della Verità (The Mouth Of Truth) in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 9,333,000.00 (€ 13,231,059.30).
