This artwork by Louis Chéron achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2007. In the Old Master and 19th Century Drawings auction, the work The Prophet Elijah and the Widow of Sarepta (I Kings, chapter 17) sold for GBP 6,960.00 (€ 10,337.21) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Louis Chéron - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Sketch For A Wall And A Ceiling Decoration With Apollo In His Chariot And Apollo Pursuing Daphne, which sold at auction in June 2001 for GBP 17,625.00 (€ 29,278.63).
