Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Blue Pipa by Leonid Purygin was sold in the Escape Artists: The Non-Conformists Online auction at Sothebys in New York in October 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 35,000.00 (€ 30,885.99) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Leonid Purygin - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Babylon Tower, which sold at auction in November 2007 for GBP 56,900.00 (€ 79,674.72).
