Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Substance by Lao Lianben was worth HKD 625,000.00 (€ 70,542.26) to a buyer in November 2018. This price was achieved in the auction Asian 20th Century Art (Day Sale) Including a Selection of Japanese Woodblock Prints from Private Collections at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 160,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Lao Lianben; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Meditation 3 sold at auction in May this year with the realized price of HKD 882,000.00 (€ 105,717.48).
