Auction result well in line with expectations
In September 2013 Christies in London held the auction 19th Century European Art Including Orientalist Art, which included the work Strada De Sepolcri A Pompeii; Tempio Di Giove Con Eruzione; And Cratere Del 1850 by Gioacchino La Pira. The price achieved of GBP 3,750.00 (€ 4,482.55) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gioacchino La Pira - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Bay of Naples; and Vesuvius erupting, which sold at auction in April 2001 for GBP 8,225.00 (€ 13,259.73).
