Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Kitagawa Utamaro II could be acquired at Christies in New York in October 2001 for an unexpectedly low price. In the JAPANESE AND KOREAN ART auction, the work Beauty seated with a fan from the series Furyu nana Komachi (Fashionable seven Komachi), signed Utamaro hitsu and published by Iseya Souemon--very good impression, slightly faded, tape residue on verso, slightly soiled changed hands for USD 1,410.00 (€ 1,567.89) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of U Admittedly, works by Kitagawa Utamaro II have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Famous Product: Mount Fuji White Sake (Meibutsu fuji no shirozake) in June 2017 with an auction result of GBP 10,625.00 (€ 12,099.89).
