Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Boat Party on Sumida River and Fireworks at Ryogoku Bridge by Kitagawa Utamaro II was auctioned at Christies in New York in September last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,000.00 – 4,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 2,800.00 (€ 2,862.11). Admittedly, works by Kitagawa Utamaro II have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Famous Product: Mount Fuji White Sake (Meibutsu fuji no shirozake) in June 2017 with an auction result of GBP 10,625.00 (€ 12,099.89).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Boat Party on Sumida River and Fireworks at Ryogoku Bridge von Kitagawa Utamaro II im September letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 3.000,00 – 4.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 2.800,00 (€ 2.862,11) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Kitagawa Utamaro II auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Famous Product: Mount Fuji White Sake (Meibutsu fuji no shirozake) im Juni 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 10.625,00 (€ 12.099,89).
