Edo period (1615-1868), early/mid-19th century
Two oban tate-e bijingga prints: the first depicting the courtesan Segawa of the Matsubaya drinking ayamezake (sake soaked with iris root) from the series Seiro Gosekku, (Beauties of the Yoshiwara Compared to the Five Festivals), published by Iseya Soemon, censor's seal kiwame, 32cm x 23cm (12 5/8in x 9 1/16in); the second from the series Tosei bijin zoroi (Collection of Contemporary Beauties), depicting a mother, standing, and holding an infant who looks down at his face reflected in the water of the kingyobachi (goldfish bowl), published by Kawaguchiya Uhei, with gyoji censor's seal Nishimiya, 35.5cm x 25.7cm (13 15/16in x 10 1/8in); both signed Kikukawa Eizan hitsu; both mounted on card.
