Auction result well in line with expectations
In September last year Christies in New York held the auction Japanese and Korean Art, which included the work Edo Ryogokubashi yori Tatekawa o miru zu (Tate River viewed from Ryogoku Bridge in Edo) by Keisai Eisen. The price achieved of USD 6,300.00 (€ 6,439.74) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Keisai Eisen - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Courtesan, which sold at auction in September 2004 for USD 23,900.00 (€ 19,247.81).
