In September 2002 Christies in New York held the auction Japanese and Korean Art, which included the work Senkyo suicho (Alone on a bridge, fishing) by Kawai Gyokudo. The »bidding war« ended at USD 11,950.00 (€ 12,096.37), 49% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Kawai Gyokudo have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Suikyo (Gorge) in November 2000 with an auction result of USD 47,000.00 (€ 54,060.27).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 49 % übertroffen
Im September 2002 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Japanese and Korean Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Senkyo suicho (Alone on a bridge, fishing) von Kawai Gyokudo zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 11.950,00 (€ 12.096,37) und damit 49% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Kawai Gyokudo auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Suikyo (Gorge) im November 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 47.000,00 (€ 54.060,27).
