Despite a disappointment, a good price for Kawai Gyokudo
This work of art by Kawai Gyokudo could be acquired at Christies in New York in November 2000 for an unexpectedly low price. In the JAPANESE MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY PAINTINGS auction, the work Suikyo (Gorge) changed hands for USD 47,000.00 (€ 54,060.27) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00. Despite this disappointing result, Suikyo (Gorge) is the most expensive artwork by Kawai Gyokudo that we have observed at auction so far.
