This artwork by Katsukawa Shunko achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Los Angeles in September this year. In the Japanese and Korean Art auction, the work The actor Sakata Hangoro sold for USD 5,670.00 (€ 5,357.14) - well above the upper estimate of USD 3,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Katsukawa Shunko; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Unknown sold at auction in March 2003 with the realized price of USD 10,157.50 (€ 9,318.81).
