Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Joseph Yoakum achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in February last year. In the Outsider Art auction, the work Devil's Backbone, Denver, Colorado, circa 1960 sold for USD 20,000.00 (€ 17,818.96) - well above the upper estimate of USD 9,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Joseph Yoakum; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Mt Nev De Samaja of Las Andes Mtn Range Near La Paz Bolovia South America, 1964 sold at auction in February last year with the realized price of USD 22,500.00 (€ 20,046.33).
