Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2019 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Masters Evening Sale, which included the work Study Of A Philosopher by Joseph Wright of Derby. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 225,000.00 (€ 265,923.67) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joseph Wright of Derby achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work An Academy By Lamplight in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 7,263,700.00 (€ 8,174,230.35).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Dezember 2019 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Old Masters Evening Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Study Of A Philosopher von Joseph Wright of Derby zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 200.000,00 – 300.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 225.000,00 (€ 265.923,67) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Joseph Wright of Derby erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit An Academy By Lamplight im Dezember 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 7.263.700,00 (€ 8.174.230,35).
