In May this year Christies in New York held the auction Three Private Collections: Belgravia, Berkshire and Guernsey, which included the work Portrait of a gentleman in a red fur-trimmed coat, frogged waistcoat and a white turban by Joseph Wright of Derby. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 44,100.00 (€ 51,310.64), 26% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joseph Wright of Derby achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work An Academy By Lamplight in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 7,263,700.00 (€ 8,174,230.35).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 26 % übertroffen
Im Mai diesen Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion Three Private Collections: Belgravia, Berkshire and Guernsey durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of a gentleman in a red fur-trimmed coat, frogged waistcoat and a white turban von Joseph Wright of Derby zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 44.100,00 (€ 51.310,64) und damit 26% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Joseph Wright of Derby erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit An Academy By Lamplight im Dezember 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 7.263.700,00 (€ 8.174.230,35).
