Auction result well in line with expectations
In July last year Christies in London held the auction Old Master Paintings & Sculpture Online, which included the work Portrait of Sampson Copestake of Kirk Langley (1726-1816), half-length, in a blue velvet uniform by Joseph Wright of Derby. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 25,200.00 (€ 30,093.28) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joseph Wright of Derby achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work An Academy By Lamplight in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 7,263,700.00 (€ 8,174,230.35).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Juli letzten Jahres führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Master Paintings & Sculpture Online durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of Sampson Copestake of Kirk Langley (1726-1816), half-length, in a blue velvet uniform von Joseph Wright of Derby zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 25.000,00 – 35.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 25.200,00 (€ 30.093,28) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Joseph Wright of Derby erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit An Academy By Lamplight im Dezember 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 7.263.700,00 (€ 8.174.230,35).
