Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Joseph Highmore could be acquired at Christies in London in June 2000 for an unexpectedly low price. In the British Pictures auction, the work Portrait of the Duchess of Argyll, three-quarter-length, in an oyster satin dress trimmed with blue ribbons, in a wooded landscape changed hands for GBP 3,525.00 (€ 5,587.56) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joseph Highmore achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Three girls, three-quarter-length, in blue, pink and oyster satin dresses, in a landscape in December 2000 with an auction result of GBP 44,650.00 (€ 71,127.05).
