Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2010 Christies in London held the auction The Collection of the Late John Appleby: A Channel Island Treasure House, which included the work Four studies of ladies in elaborate dress (two illustrated) by Joseph Highmore. The price achieved of GBP 937.50 (€ 1,120.31) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joseph Highmore achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Three girls, three-quarter-length, in blue, pink and oyster satin dresses, in a landscape in December 2000 with an auction result of GBP 44,650.00 (€ 71,127.05).
