Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Double Portrait of Two Children In A Landscape by Joseph Highmore was auctioned at Christies in New York in April 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 100,000.00 – 150,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 97,000.00 (€ 62,307.30). Other works by Joseph Highmore have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in December 2000 by the work Three girls, three-quarter-length, in blue, pink and oyster satin dresses, in a landscape at GBP 44,650.00 (€ 71,127.05).

Als die Arbeit Double Portrait of Two Children In A Landscape von Joseph Highmore im April 2008 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 100.000,00 – 150.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 97.000,00 (€ 62.307,30) den Besitzer. Andere Arbeiten von Joseph Highmore wurden auch schon teurer gehandelt; den höchsten Preis, den wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachten konnten, erzielte im Dezember 2000 die Arbeit Three girls, three-quarter-length, in blue, pink and oyster satin dresses, in a landscape mit GBP 44.650,00 (€ 71.127,05).
