Auction result well in line with expectations
In July this year Bonhams in London held the auction Old Master Paintings, which included the work Portrait of a gentleman, half-length, in military uniform and a tricorn hat under his arm by Joseph Highmore. The price achieved of GBP 7,040.00 (€ 8,213.55) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Admittedly, works by Joseph Highmore have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Three girls, three-quarter-length, in blue, pink and oyster satin dresses, in a landscape in December 2000 with an auction result of GBP 44,650.00 (€ 71,127.05).
