Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Ann Miles, later Mrs. John Sell Cotman, full-length, her right hand holding a parasol, her left arm resting on a plinth by John Thirtle was sold in the Old Master & 19th Century Paintings, Drawings & Watercolours Day auction at Christies in London in July 2010. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,250.00 (€ 2,705.37) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by John Thirtle have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of John Sell Cotman, Mrs Edmund Miles And Ann Miles In The Miles Family Farmhouse, Felbrigg, Norfolk in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 9,000.00 (€ 13,365.28).
