Auction result misses estimated price range
In July 2021 a collector was able to acquire the work A barge on a canal, Norfolk by John Thirtle for GBP 625.00 (€ 732.94). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master and British Drawings and Watercolours including a Fine Collection of Old Master Prints at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Thirtle achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of John Sell Cotman, Mrs Edmund Miles And Ann Miles In The Miles Family Farmhouse, Felbrigg, Norfolk in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 9,000.00 (€ 13,365.28).
