Upper estimate price exceeded by 33 %.
In February 2002 Christies in New York held the auction Maritime, which included the work A clipper ship in calm Waters and The Robert E. Lee by John Stobart. The »bidding war« ended at USD 1,997.50 (€ 2,307.11), 33% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Stobart achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Charles W. Morgan in company with the bark Janet of New Bedford and other whaling ships north of the Bering Straits in February 2005 with an auction result of USD 90,000.00 (€ 67,801.72).
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Charles W. Morgan in company with the bark Janet of New Bedford and other whaling ships north of the Bering Straits im Februar 2005 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 90.000,00 (€ 67.801,72).
