Auction result well in line with expectations
In September 2013 Christies in New York held the auction Important American Furniture, Folk Art, Silver, Paintings and Prints including Masterworks from the Westervelt Company and Selections from Thomas Molesworth's Ranch A Commission, which included the work The Abner Coburn Leaving the East River in Mist by John Stobart. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 25,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 30,000.00 (€ 22,164.76) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Stobart - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Charles W. Morgan in company with the bark Janet of New Bedford and other whaling ships north of the Bering Straits, which sold at auction in February 2005 for USD 90,000.00 (€ 67,801.72).

Im September 2013 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Important American Furniture, Folk Art, Silver, Paintings and Prints including Masterworks from the Westervelt Company and Selections from Thomas Molesworth's Ranch A Commission durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Abner Coburn Leaving the East River in Mist von John Stobart zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 25.000,00 – 50.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 30.000,00 (€ 22.164,76) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
