Upper estimated price slightly exceeded

Here, the upper estimate of USD 30,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 33,600.00 (€ 25,850.13). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Stobart - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Charles W. Morgan in company with the bark Janet of New Bedford and other whaling ships north of the Bering Straits, which sold at auction in February 2005 for USD 90,000.00 (€ 67,801.72).

Die Arbeit The Aureol leaving Lagos von John Stobart kam im Januar 2007 bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von USD 30.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für USD 33.600,00 (€ 25.850,13) einen neuen Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von John Stobart mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The Charles W.
