Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of Miss S.D. Chambers, full-length, in a white dress, seated with a dog, in a river landscape by John Russell was auctioned at Christies in London in September 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 11,875.00 (€ 13,795.45). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Russell - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait De Lady Georgiana Cavendish (1783-1858), Future Comtesse De Carlisle, À L'Âge De 6 Ans, which sold at auction in November 2020 for EUR 45,500.00.
