It achieved a price of GBP 6,250.00 (€ 7,307.26), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 25%. Admittedly, works by John Russell have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait De Lady Georgiana Cavendish (1783-1858), Future Comtesse De Carlisle, À L'Âge De 6 Ans in November 2020 with an auction result of EUR 45,500.00.

Die Arbeit Portrait of a gentleman, possibly Captain John Deffell (1742-1806), half-length, in a blue coat and white cravat von John Russell kam im Dezember 2016 bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 6.250,00 (€ 7.307,26) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 25%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Russell auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait De Lady Georgiana Cavendish (1783-1858), Future Comtesse De Carlisle, À L'Âge De 6 Ans im November 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 45.500,00.
