Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Secret Image by John Melville was sold in the 20th Century British Art auction at Sothebys in London in November 2007. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,900.91) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by John Melville have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Chairs in November 2019 with an auction result of GBP 17,500.00 (€ 20,549.28).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit The Secret Image von John Melville wurde im November 2007 in der Auktion 20th Century British Art bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 3.500,00 (€ 4.900,91) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Melville auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Chairs im November 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 17.500,00 (€ 20.549,28).
