Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by John Melville could be acquired at Sothebys in London in March 2008 for an unexpectedly low price. In the 20th Century British Art auction, the work The Mountain City changed hands for GBP 2,375.00 (€ 2,983.59) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 2,500.00 – 3,500.00. Admittedly, works by John Melville have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Chairs in November 2019 with an auction result of GBP 17,500.00 (€ 20,549.28).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Dieses Kunstwerk von John Melville konnte im März 2008 bei Sothebys in London für einen unerwartet niedrigen Preis ersteigert werden. In der Auktion 20th Century British Art wechselte die Arbeit The Mountain City für GBP 2.375,00 (€ 2.983,59) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 2.500,00 – 3.500,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Melville auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Chairs im November 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 17.500,00 (€ 20.549,28).
