This artwork by John Martin achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2016. In the Old Masters Day Sale auction, the work The City Of God And The Waters Of Life sold for GBP 137,000.00 (€ 162,785.64) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 70,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Martin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Celestial City And The River Of Bliss in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 2,725,000.00 (€ 3,863,134.75).

In der Auktion Old Masters Day Sale wurde die Arbeit The City Of God And The Waters Of Life für GBP 137.000,00 (€ 162.785,64) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 70.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Martin erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Celestial City And The River Of Bliss im Juli 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 2.725.000,00 (€ 3.863.134,75).
