This artwork by John Martin achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2013. In the Old Master & British Drawings including French Masterworks from the Dormeuil Collection auction, the work Figures In A Classical Landscape sold for GBP 11,875.00 (€ 13,569.26) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Martin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Celestial City And The River Of Bliss in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 2,725,000.00 (€ 3,863,134.75).
