Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by John Martin achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2014. In the Old Master and British Drawings and Watercolours auction, the work A Study For 'Adam'S First Sight Of Eve' sold for GBP 2,500.00 (€ 3,218.33) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Martin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Celestial City And The River Of Bliss in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 2,725,000.00 (€ 3,863,134.75).
