Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The San Francisco Gas and Light Company (cylindrical building behind older building), 1948 by John Gutmann was auctioned at Christies in Paris in November 2012, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of EUR 1,500.00 – 2,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for EUR 1,062.50. Admittedly, works by John Gutmann have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work First Drive-in Theatre, Los Angeles, 1935 in September 2006 with an auction result of USD 8,400.00 (€ 6,620.95).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit The San Francisco Gas and Light Company (cylindrical building behind older building), 1948 von John Gutmann im November 2012 bei Christies in Paris versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von EUR 1.500,00 – 2.500,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für EUR 1.062,50 den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Gutmann auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit First Drive-in Theatre, Los Angeles, 1935 im September 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 8.400,00 (€ 6.620,95).
