Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by John Frederick Lewis achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May last year. In the The Collection of Sir Nicholas Goodison - British Art: Innovation and Craftsmanship auction, the work Sketches and Drawings of the Alhambra. London: 1835 sold for GBP 10,710.00 (€ 12,599.30) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Frederick Lewis achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Midday Meal, Cairo in June 2005 with an auction result of GBP 2,472,000.00 (€ 3,663,660.11).

London: 1835 für GBP 10.710,00 (€ 12.599,30) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 5.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Frederick Lewis erzielen.
