Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of A European In Oriental Dress, Possibly Sir John Gardner Wilkinson by John Frederick Lewis was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 5,000.00 – 8,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 5,250.00 (€ 5,886.40) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Frederick Lewis achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Midday Meal, Cairo in June 2005 with an auction result of GBP 2,472,000.00 (€ 3,663,660.11).

Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 5.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 5.250,00 (€ 5.886,40) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
