Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A young boy, in a coat and frilled collar; a young lady, in a low-cut dress with scalloped border, wearing a necklace, her hair upswept; and Mr. Skelton, in a coat and frilled cravat by John Field was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2004. The price achieved of GBP 298.75 (€ 448.24) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 250.00 – 350.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Field - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Admiral Viscount Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), which sold at auction in October 2005 for GBP 780.00 (€ 1,150.26).
