Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Francis Bacon; Susan And John Paine, 1960S by John Deakin was auctioned at Sothebys in London in March 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 438.00 (€ 508.37). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Deakin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Elizabeth Smart, Writer, c.1952 in May 2007 with an auction result of GBP 19,200.00 (€ 28,254.10).
