Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A gentleman, full face in blue coat with gold buttons, white waistcoat and frilled cravat, powdered hair by John Cox Dillman Engleheart was sold in the IMPORTANT PORTRAIT MINIATURES, GOLD BOXES & OBJECTS OF VERTU auction at Christies in London in November 2000. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 881.25 (€ 1,440.37) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by John Cox Dillman Engleheart have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The left eye of the artist's sister, Mary Cox Dillman Engleheart (1782-1845), later Mrs John Pyne, brown iris with curling lock of brown hair in December 2002 with an auction result of GBP 5,736.00 (€ 8,805.05).
