A young gentleman in blue coat, white waistcoat and cravat

Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%

This artwork by John Cox Dillman Engleheart achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in April 2006. In the Silver and Plate, Portrait Miniatures, Objects of Vertu and Icons auction, the work A young gentleman in blue coat, white waistcoat and cravat sold for GBP 600.00 (€ 865.97) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 250.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Cox Dillman Engleheart achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The left eye of the artist's sister, Mary Cox Dillman Engleheart (1782-1845), later Mrs John Pyne, brown iris with curling lock of brown hair in December 2002 with an auction result of GBP 5,736.00 (€ 8,805.05).
