This artwork by John Cleveley the Younger achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in November 2010. In the The Collection of the Late John Appleby: A Channel Island Treasure House auction, the work Ships of the fleet and other smaller vessels becalmed off the Needles sold for GBP 2,375.00 (€ 2,838.12) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Cleveley the Younger achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Views In The South Seas (4) in September 2004 with an auction result of GBP 318,850.00 (€ 464,524.16).

In der Auktion The Collection of the Late John Appleby: A Channel Island Treasure House wurde die Arbeit Ships of the fleet and other smaller vessels becalmed off the Needles für GBP 2.375,00 (€ 2.838,12) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 1.200,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Cleveley the Younger erzielen.
