Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by John Cleveley the Younger achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2011. In the Old Master and British Drawings Including Property from the Descendants of Walter Brandt auction, the work Whaling Off The Coast sold for GBP 13,125.00 (€ 15,062.90) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Cleveley the Younger achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Views In The South Seas (4) in September 2004 with an auction result of GBP 318,850.00 (€ 464,524.16).
In der Auktion Old Master and British Drawings Including Property from the Descendants of Walter Brandt wurde die Arbeit Whaling Off The Coast für GBP 13.125,00 (€ 15.062,90) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 6.000,00.
