Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2019 Christies in London held the auction Topographical Pictures including Selections from the Kelton Collection, which included the work 'Captain Cook's Ships "Adventure" and "Resolution", in the Tagus off Belem Castle, near Lisbon' by John Cleveley the Younger. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 4,375.00 (€ 5,074.69) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Cleveley the Younger achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Views In The South Seas (4) in September 2004 with an auction result of GBP 318,850.00 (€ 464,524.16).
