In March last year Christies in London held the auction Dramas of Light and Land: The Martyn Gregory Collection of British Art, which included the work Whaling in the Arctic by John Cleveley the Younger. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 20,160.00 (€ 23,901.95), 68% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Cleveley the Younger achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Views In The South Seas (4) in September 2004 with an auction result of GBP 318,850.00 (€ 464,524.16).
