Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The battle of the Saintes, 12th April 1782 by John Christian Schetky was sold in the Important Maritime Art auction at Christies in London in October 2007. The price achieved of GBP 31,700.00 (€ 45,523.29) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 25,000.00 – 35,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Christian Schetky - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Lord Belfast's yacht Emily hove-to for her owner to come aboard, off the Belem Tower, at the mouth of the Tagus, Lisbon, which sold at auction in October 2007 for GBP 96,500.00 (€ 138,580.35).
