In June 2002 Christies in London held the auction Sporting Art and Dogs, which included the work A chestnut hunter in a stable by John Charlton. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,585.00 (€ 3,998.41), 29% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Charlton achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'God save the Queen': Queen Victoria arriving at St Paul's Cathedral on the Occasion of the Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving Service, 22 June 1897 in July 2013 with an auction result of GBP 55,875.00 (€ 63,846.93).
