Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Meet by John Charlton was sold in the Sporting Art auction at Christies in New York in December 2006. The price achieved of USD 36,000.00 (€ 27,278.93) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Charlton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work 'God save the Queen': Queen Victoria arriving at St Paul's Cathedral on the Occasion of the Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving Service, 22 June 1897, which sold at auction in July 2013 for GBP 55,875.00 (€ 63,846.93).
