This artwork by John Bentham-Dinsdale achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in November 2012. In the Maritime Art auction, the work The engagement between H.M.S. Dryad and the French frigate Prosperine, 13th June 1796 sold for GBP 3,000.00 (€ 3,695.70) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Bentham-Dinsdale - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work H.M.S. Crescent, under the command of Captain James Saumarez, capturing the French frigate Réunion off Cherbourg, 20 October 1793, which sold at auction in March 2017 for GBP 8,125.00 (€ 9,521.70).
